Johnsonville Rotary is hosting the Wellington North Primary Schools Citizenship Awards. Students from Churton Park, Johnsonville, Newlands and Paparangi will be presented with their awards by Wellington Mayor; Tory Whanau.
Johnsonville has a new Community Library set up by Johnsonville Rotary and Johnsonville Shopping Centre.
On Tuesday 26th September Centre Manager, Kirsty Macgregor and Johnsonville Rotary President, Athula Wanasinghe welcomed Wellington City Councillors Tony Randall and John Apanowicz as they cut the ribbon to open the new community library located inside the Johnsonville Mall.

It’s a local free library for visitors to the Shopping Centre to use. The books to get started have been donated by Rotary, Wellington Library, and members of the community.
So if your visiting the library or just coming in to get a coffee, feel free to browse, borrow a book, or take a seat in the library and relax and read. All that’s asked is you return the book when you’ve finished.
Johnsonville Rotary linked up with the Institute of Engineering and technology (IET) to run a successful Robots workshop at Newlands Intermediate School in September.
The workshop is called Project X and it is a STEM activity created by the IET to enable up to 20 children to individually build and program their own robot in just 1 day.
Students do not need any experience or knowledge of electronics or software to participate as training and assistance is provided by 8 experienced engineers/helpers from Johnsonville Rotary and the IET. Starting at 9:00am most of the robots were complete and working by 2pm.

The Johnsonville Christmas Market is planned for Saturday 2nd December 2023 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The location will be in the main carpark of Johnsonville Shopping Centre.
On 24th July the club welcomed Sia Goel a student from Newlands College, who the club sponsored on the 2023 Innovative Young Minds Program.
Innovative Young Minds (IYM) is a program run throughout the Greater Wellington area by Rotary clubs that enables young women to experience what a career in technology might be like with program of events, company visits and presentations compressed over a few days. It culminates in a visit to Parliament where the attendees have an opportunity to provide feedback and insights on what they have learned.
Sia who is a student at Newland’s College explained her experience during the program to members of the club and how IYM has helped her to develop some ideas on possible future career paths.
On Sunday 6th August club members from Johnsonville joined members of Tawa Rotary to visit Life Flight’s base at Wellington Airport.

Johnsonville Rotary along with other Rotary clubs in District 9940 in raising funds to equip Life Flight’s new aircraft so they can safely transport very small children in incubators and their families in emergency situations. Club members visiting Life Flight saw at first hand the new aircraft Life Flight has acquired. Sebastian Grodd; Life Flight’s Head of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications explained how the new aircraft will enable Life Flight to extend their reach to many more people in more remote areas as they can land in much smaller airfields.
On Monday 14th August the club was pleased to welcome Sebastian back as guest speaker at the club meeting. He explained the current fundraising program for Life Flight and how Rotary can support them and also provided members of the club that were unable to visit the base, an overview Life Flight’s history and work.
Martin Garcia; Past Chair of the Rotary Foundation was a guest at the club meeting on 10th July. Martin was there to say thanks and present new Club President Athula Wanasinghe with an award recognising the clubs Charitable Donations and support for the Rotary Foundation over the past year.
The Foundation awards recognise the financial contribution raised and donated to the foundation by the clubs programs, events, and activities.
On the 26th June the club held it’s annual changeover meeting. Outgoing Club President; Neil Haydon reviewed the club’s achievements and activities during the last 12 months and thanked all members for their support.

Johnsonville Rotary has honoured Michael Hodgen with a Paul Harris Fellowship Double Sapphire Pin to recognise his dedicated service efforts on behalf of the club and the community.

Prior to joining Johnsonville Club Michael’s first Rotary Club was at Umtata, in the Transkei in South Africa, a multiracial and multinational club, with members from across Africa, UK, Europe, and North America.
On Saturday 20th May at Aotea College, the new Wellington Interact club held a very successful fundraiser in support of Birthright. Birthright is a charity that supports single parents.
The Performance Gala offered range of performance art ranging from Hip-hop dance through to string quartets, and choirs. Money was raised through Koha and the sale of cakes, drinks, and sweets.
Johnsonville Rotary was pleased to offer support and sponsor the event.
In between selling cakes, drinks and organising parking for the audience there was time for club members to relax a little and celebrate the success of the Performance Gala
