Claire Bibby – Halfway House
On Monday 9th May, our guest speaker was Claire Bibby; President of Glenside Progressive Association.
Clair explained the history of Halfway House and how Glenside, a reserve of about 12 hectares was established when purchased by the Wellington City Council in 1951 with money paid in compensation by Victoria University for encroaching on the Wellington Town Belt. The historic Halfway House is also located here.
Claire and the Association with a team volunteers have turned the site into a beautiful tranquil rural place with Victorian gardens beside streams and hills between Johnsonville and Tawa along the old Porirua Road.
